Q:I've read most of the SM/WW fanfics and loved them. Most of the time the reason Kal hesitates being with Diana is because he's at heart a farmer's son and is humble and has to work for his money so he can't give her what's she's used to. My question is, why can't he be rich or at least well off? I mean being humble and a farmer's son is no excuse not to succeed in life. He can still be a reporter but he's smart enough to earn money in other ways without drawing attention to himself right?

The Clark is a simple farmers son is more an Iron age ie 1986-2011 kind of thing. Remember Superman has been crushing coal in diamonds for decades before that. First came the Secret Citadel, then the Fortress of Solitude. Clark’s Apartment maybe Spartan, and New 52 crowded with Jimmy, but on balance for most of the mythos the life and salary of a reporter is part of the disguise. Also being a farm boy doesn’t mean he is poor in spirit or imagination. Many farm boys went on to achieve great things. Bruce might have a cool car, but Superman gets to take Krypto on a space walk. Money in the bank is pretty meaningless to someone who is a living Starship Enterprise in human form.
