Every writer brings something different to the table.

Fans can either buy or not.

It’s fair to remember Superman has form. The Golden Age Machismo 

..gave way to some silver age angst.

Whether it was Lori the mermaid ( to whom Superman proposed marriage ) as above, or the Lana or Lois question - Superman was arguably - in some stories - indecisive about his romantic life.

Now I’ll be honest, I really don’t find those kind of stories particularly interesting, I didn’t as a kid when I read them for the first time, or now. I like the big epic stories where Superman is put up against huge galactic level threats.

When following a intellectual property as a fan it’s impossible to like everything, indeed sometimes it’s hard to like everything a single writer chooses to do, this problem is multiplied when you have multiple writers at any one time telling a character - Superman’s stories.

Lets also say it would be unfair to judge Unchained yet, they say don’t judge a book by it’s cover, and that is over 9000 times true for Comic books.

So in short Superman can - if written that way - be an utter jerk. He’s been written as nice but dim, with a fear of crowds, in the over-wrought Iron age, as brittle as carrot in the cast-iron age when it was implied by some writers that he couldn’t function without a human anchor, and was liable to snap into madness - maybe go and sit in the sun for centuries.

We’re entitled to pick and choose what we like and support the interpretations that work for us as fans.

On a personal level I sympathise with a twenty something Superman feeling conflicted over his unrequited feelings for Lois, and while in real time we’re a year into Superman and Wonder Woman as a couple, in comic time they’ve only been dating a few weeks.

It’s possible for Lois and Clark to want to be together, but both independently arrive at an adult decision that it would be a bad idea for both of them; and therefore choose to be with someone else. Not every “love” is destined to work out or end well. Sometimes we have resolve not to act on a attraction and or end something and move on.

So while initially the idea of Synder Lee Superman comic did appear attractive, it might not be right for you or me, but others might love it.
